By occupation, James' father Peter was a planter. His will was proved in York County on Nov 20, 1731.
James first wife, Diana Chism, was the daughter of John and Elianna (Eleanor?) Chism or Chisman.
The Goodwin homestead was a two-story imposing structure facing Goodwin Island on the thorofare in what is now know as Dandy. The house was torn down shortly after 1900.
John Holloway of Prince George Co. 250 acres; patented to JH Mar 24, 1725, deeded Feb 12, 1730 to Thos. Lawrence; Eliz Holloway relinquishes her dower right. 1726-27? Charles Holloway deeds 100 acres to John Goodwyn of Surry on Mirey Meadow, being a part of the land left to John, Edward & Charles by their father. Signed by Chas H., witnessed by Edw. H. (OEH 414-5. Chambliss ms p. 11, dates 10-1728.
Son Peter married Sarah Coleman who was born on Oakley Farm, Carolina Co. VA. Their son, James Coleman Goodwin, was born Mar 29, 1761 and died Feb 1814 in Fayette Co. KY.
Son Robert married Jane Tulloch (1743-1795?). Their son Jesse Goodwin (1760-1848) was born in Greenvile Co. SC and served in the Revolutionary War under Gen. Francis Marion in the Carolinas, and was wounded. He and his family and Robert migrated to Cerulean Springs, Christian Co. KY.
